Drawing Ability
Value Drawing
This piece is a fully rendered drawing of a still life that was created within Art 121. This piece truly shows my ability to draw and create believable, detailed, and compelling drawings. Charcoal was used to create different values within the piece to give it that realistic feel. Details within the piece are shown within the wood and the reflection of objects in the ornaments. Besides adding shading and value, to enhance the believability of the piece I correctly depicted the perspective of the still life. Through the way, you could see the chair legs to the spacing of the objects on the chair. Another aspect of the piece that helped bring believability was controlled abstraction. The background of the piece contained many things like easels and other classmates. I felt as if this took away from the still life and so I purposely left them out of the composition. Within the piece, many different lines help to add detail, shape objects, and add to the composition of the piece. At the beginning of the drawing process, I had to figure out which area of the still life would create a compelling and interesting composition. This composition seemed the best due to the way the chair touches the top right corner, right side, bottom, and bottom left corner of the drawing. This area was also chosen due to the many details with the reflection of all the ornaments. I wanted to use this as an opportunity to show my abilities and to challenge myself.
